Selection Of ERP Application... Questions to Ask...(2)

Part (2) – Initial Business requirements Assessment


1. Why is a new accounting or enterprise application being sought?
2. What critical issues are not being addressed in the current system that you’d like
addressed in the new system?
3. What is the name and version number of the application your company is running
currently?
4. How long has your company been running this application?

5. Is your company current on the maintenance agreement?
6. If not, why not? Was it a strategic decision or financial decision?
7. What outside firm assisted with the implementation, and are they still supporting
your company?
8. If you have support, is it local or remote?
9. How many users on the application (the total number of people accessing the
application)?
10. Has there been recent turnover of “power-users” – those who have historically
administered the application, or have been recognized and knowledgeable
authorities on its use?
11. Does your company have an approved budget for a new application and its
implementation? If so, what is the estimated range.
12. Is there a time line to 1) select a new application, and 2) to go- live with it?
13. Has an RFP (Request for Proposal) been created? (This is not a suggestion an
RFP is necessary. In fact, the contrary may be true.) If so, when and by whom?
